Union 18
Union 18 is a design studio founded by husband and wife, Todd and Meg Van Der Kruik. With a focus on creating sustainable art and interior products through the use of reuse of discarded and renewable material. Their individual art and design backgrounds have earned them awards from I.D. Magazine, IIDA and IIDEX best of Neocon as well as gallery exhibitions throughout the United States.
About their product RAW (handmade rugs from recycled carpet)
Before they can exist, they must first be discovered.
It is this simple idea that makes RAW truly amazing. The beauty, richness and elegance of the whole can only be realized once the search for the parts is complete. Each piece is gathered, grouped and assembled without expectation. Pulled from the thousands of pounds of waste left behind as a result of the manufacturing process, it is only a vision that guides the search. Rooting out, uncovering, liberating each castoff to form something new, unique and extraordinary. The colors and textures must be found, not created. Only then can they truly exist. This is RAW.
YDF and Union 18
I stumbled on Meg and Todd's work on a popular US based design blog and knew instantly that I had to have them part of our key suppliers. Their environmental focus and history of design excellence drew me in; the fantastic looking rugs hooked me.
This product is made to order. You select your size, email us a room photo, paint colours, or your favourite foods (spaghetti sauce red maybe!) Meg and Todd create custom layouts for your review and approval based on your input. Once approved 4-6 weeks later you own a rug conceptualized by you and created by Union 18.
We ordered one for our own loft. We used an overall palette of greys and infused bands that told the story of our son. The green and white from his first sleeper, the banana yellow of his favourite food and so on. How brilliant to create one for a child's room.
I can't wait to see each of your creations...

Klaus by Nienkamper
Lots of retailers sell modern furniture, but few have deeper connections to the design world than Klaus by Nienkamper. The Klaus Nienkamper who runs the store has been immersed in design all his life: his father, also named Klaus Nienkamper, founded the Nienkamper furniture company, one of North America's most respected manufacturers of modern furniture for corporate and residential environments.
Klaus by Nienkamper is Toronto's exclusive retailer for residential furniture and accessories by several European and UK manufacturers in the vanguard of modern design, including Artifort, e15, Moooi, Moroso, and Tom Dixon. And of course it's also where you'll find the latest furniture by Daniel Libeskind and other prominent designers and architects of who have designed products for Nienkamper in recent years.
With a unique perspective informed by more than 40 years of modern design history, Klaus by Nienkamper can help design lovers find their own beautiful future.
YDF and Klaus by Nienkamper
For more than 10 years now I've been specifying their namesake products commercially and as of late their hand selected design offerings. The Klaus by Nienkamper showroom is filled with new, modern, intriguing and simply stunning things. Self proclaimed as perennially modern, not frozen in time, they are not a store that rehashes classic designs.
I wanted to bring a cross section of timeless accessible classics but also expose you to what really represents the right now. Klaus by Nienkamper allows us an educated selection of the current, top of their game designers. I've come to trust and appreciate the history and with that innate sense of design they offer. I can't tell you how thrilled we are to be working with the Nienkampers and all that they represent.

LUx, Blair Chivers
Blair is a screen paint artist, based in Toronto. His work in Canada is primarily custom order, which is in complete contrast to his design philosophy. His work is priced low. He sees it as a changeable, accessible medium for beautifying our spaces. He takes inspiration from high fashion and sets his seasonal colour palette based on the runways. One look at his work will help preserve that period in fashion.

FLUF
They say that the devil is in the details. FLUF founders, Nathalie Butterfield and Terra Kushner, say it is equally true for style, great design and originality. In the summer of 2005, their shared vision to elevate one of the unsung details of the home, the lowly pillow, led them to create FLUF.
About
Terra from FLUF and I have know each other a long time. Terra worked with me many many years ago at my old design firm. We did primarily commercial projects at that point and it was a tough time. The hours were long and the work was often mundane. We were in the trenches together and it exposed the good and the ugly of the best of us. We both pulled through with a new respect for each others work and general ability to kick design butt. When I heard of Terra’s latest endeavour I knew it would be spectacular. There is not a detail left undone with these two ladies running the show. Nearly entirely eco-friendly content and processing, all of their products are examples of responsible and forward design.
